✪ ARTHUR  :   NATIONAL LITERACY MONTH VIDEO

ROLE  :   DESIGNER, ILLUSTRATOR, STORYBOARD ARTIST   |  2016

Using the Arthur opening theme “Believe in Yourself,” we made a short lyric video to celebrate National Literacy Month in America. This project was commisioned by the WGBH Children’s Media Department. I illustrated an environment where the beloved Arthur characters could interact with the words themselves. I also designed and advised on all typographic decisions.

We had roughly a week to design, animate, and post the piece, so we had to move quickly.
We crafted the narrative and storyboards. The boards were reviewed by our clients in the Childrens Department, childhood literacy experts, and Marc Brown (creator of Arthur).

I learned a lot about the challenges of designing for children during this process.

Creating the this piece required an understanding of how kids are taught to read and write, and ensuring that typography is legible by these standards.
I used my digital illustration tablet to keep my designs gestural and friendly while crafting this world.
Below, I’ve featured some of my favorite storyboards depicting this artwork.
